Onimusha: Way of the Sword Characters & Cast

Musashi is a wandering samurai and one of the most legendary swordsmen in Japanese history. His likeness is modeled on actor Toshiro Mifune, and he is voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya in Japanese and Kenjiro Thompson in English.

He is forced to wear the Oni Gauntlet after being killed by the Genma, and spends the story fighting to remove it while purifying the rifts spreading through Edo-period Kyoto.

Sasaki Ganryu, also known as Sasaki Kojiro, is Musashi's historical rival, voiced in English by Tashinga Bepete. In the game he is revived by his own Oni Gauntlet and becomes obsessed with its power, eventually slaughtering humans to absorb their souls.

His gauntlet houses the Oni spirit Gioh, who assists him. Ganryu's descent into soul-harvesting is one of the story's central threads and drives the tragedy between him and Musashi.

The Man in White is revealed to be Minamoto no Yoshitsune, the historical figure who leads the Genma army that wiped out the Oni. He was once recruited as an Onimusha before being imprisoned in Hell for his lust for power.

Yoshitsune manipulates Musashi and Ganryu into collecting human, Genma and Oni souls, hoping to combine them and become a godlike being who can rewrite reality itself.

Shizuka Gozen is the Oni soul residing inside Musashi's gauntlet, and was married to Yoshitsune. She guides Musashi and explains the fall of the Oni.

Ono no Takamura is an Onimusha who also wields an Oni Gauntlet and protects the gate to Hell. Izumo no Okuni is his apprentice, who later swears to carry on his duties while spreading the art of kabuki dance.

Dokyo is a mysterious woman assisting Yoshitsune, and her own plan reaches fruition even after his defeat. The cast also includes the Oni traitor Shuten Douji and the Oni spirit Gioh.

Voice actors for these supporting characters are not yet confirmed in the collected material. As Capcom publishes the full cast, this page will be updated.

Lady Murasaki is an eccentric figure and an old acquaintance of Ono no Takamura, who prefers to assist Musashi from a distance. Her exact role in the story is introduced partway through Musashi's purification of Kyoto.

The story also features a giant Genma named Diodara, fought in the Oni refuge — a creature so hungry it tries to consume the very souls Musashi is absorbing. A pair of Genma brothers who genuinely enjoy combat recur throughout, developing a respectful enthusiasm for Musashi. The official spellings of these Genma names are marked to be confirmed.
