Oni Armaments — Complete Guide to the 7 Oni Armaments
The Oni Gauntlet is the heart of combat in Onimusha: Way of the Sword, but the real tactical depth comes from the seven Oni Armaments it can equip. These are not replacement weapons — they are active skills that consume energy and open up different approaches to crowd control, burst damage, resource generation and boss breaking.
What are Oni Armaments?
Oni Armaments are special abilities tied to the Oni Gauntlet on Miyamoto Musashi's left arm. Unlike the katana, they are not a persistent weapon model; instead, each Armament is a short cooldown ability that changes Musashi's options for a few seconds. They are unlocked at fixed story points and can be upgraded at shrines with Oni Stones.
The 7 Oni Armaments
1. Earth-Shakers — a slow great-hammer slam that breaks armor and stuns. Best against armored bosses and groups of lesser Genma. 2. Flashing Void — a lightning-fast dash strike that closes distance and refunds energy on Issen kills. 3. Wind-Whipper — a wide whirlwind that pulls in small enemies and builds the golden gauge. 4. Still Water — buffs the katana with purple-soul generation and ends with a golden wave. 5. The Two Celestials — a defensive parry-armament that counters incoming hits with twin blades. 6. Firebird Flute — a fire projectile with charge levels; strong at range and for elemental weaknesses. 7. Oni Bow — a ranged option for flying enemies and weak-point sniping.
How to unlock and upgrade them
Most Armaments are unlocked automatically as the story progresses; a few are tied to specific shrine upgrades or side paths. Once unlocked, visit any save shrine and spend Oni Stones to improve damage, duration or utility. PowerPyx notes that there are 54 Oni Stones in the world on a first playthrough, which is not enough to max every Armament — so choose upgrades carefully.
Oni Stone economy and upgrade priority
IGN recommends unlocking the Two Celestials parry extension first because it raises the parry window, making the whole game easier. Maxroll suggests taking Wind-Whipper's first upgrade early for crowd control and red-soul farming. AppMedia ranks Two Celestials #1, Earth-Shakers #2 and Wind-Whipper #3 for raw impact. Still Water is IGN's pick for first base-skill upgrade because it boosts purple-soul gain during Oni Awakening.
Trophy and achievement tie-in
The "Oni Armory" trophy requires unlocking every Armament. Because most are story-gated, the trophy is missable only if you skip an optional shrine or side area. Collect all seven, then focus your Oni Stones on the Armaments that match your playstyle.
